Die Leichtathletik-Saison steuert auf ihre Höhepunkte zu: Dieses Wochenende finden die Landesmeisterschaften der Erwachsenen und der U18 in Bremen statt. Unter den besten Athleten aus den Landesverbänden NLV und BLV waren am Samstag auch zwei Westersteder Athleten: Nils Papenfuß hatte sich erstmal für Landesmeisterschaften qualifiziert, er startete über 3000m der U18, Malte Prietz war für „seine“ 400m in der Männerklasse gemeldet.
Um 15:40 Uhr sollten die 400m Zeitläufe beginnen, doch eine Stunde vorher schlug das Wetter um und genau wie in Westerstede vor einer Woche musste auch hier der Wettkampf unterbrochen werden. Zum Glück ebbte der Regen schnell wieder ab und auch der böige Wind ließ nach, die Bedingungen für die Sprintwettbewerbe wurden wieder besser. Malte war in den zweiten, schnelleren Lauf eingeteilt, die Devise hieß also dran bleiben, aber nicht verausgaben.
Den ersten Lauf entschied Julian Hartung vom DSC Oldenburg deutlich mit 50,52s für sich, nun war Malte an der Reihe. Die Konzentration merkte man ihm deutlich an, und sein Start klappte prima. Leider wurde er sofort zurückgeschossen, Alexander Gladitz hatte sich einen Fehlstart geleistet und wurde disqualifiziert. Es hieß also noch einmal volle Konzentration und diesmal klappte der Start. Malte kam gut aus dem Block und und hielt sehr gut mit den Männern mit. Auf der Gegengerade ließ er sich nicht zu einem zu hohen Tempo hinreißen und konnte sehr gut in der letzten Kurve den Anschluss finden und auf der Zielgerade das Tempo hoch halten. So kam er zwar als fünfter, aber nur mit sehr geringem Abstand ins Ziel: 50,39s bedeuten wieder eine gute Zeit, aber leider knapp an der Deutschen Quali vorbei! Die nächste Gelegenheit diese zu schaffen sind die Landesmeisterschaften in Wilhelmshaven.
Gegen Abend debütierte dann Nils Papenfuß auf den Landesmeisterschaften. Über die 3000m Strecke hatte er sich vor zwei Wochen qualifiziert und nun war der große Moment gekommen. Es ging für ihn hauptsächlich darum, Erfahrung zu sammeln, die größten Siegchancen hatten andere, allen voran Lennart Tiller von der SG Bredenbeck. Eine einstellige Platzierung war das Ziel.
Vom Start weg wurde noch kein allzu hohes Tempo angeschlagen und die Gruppe lief dicht gedrängt die ersten 1200m zusammen. Dann zog Lennart Tiller das Tempo deutlich an und das Feld damit auseinander, Nils gelang es ziemlich gut den Anschluss an die Vordermänner zu halten. Er war mit einem hohen Tempo unterwegs und lange Zeit auf Kurs einer deutlichen neuen Bestzeit, was sich am Ende aber bemerkbar machte. Die letzten 800m waren sehr hart und er bemühte sich, das Tempo nicht zu verlieren. Eine Tempoverschärfung war aber leider nicht mehr drin. So gelang ihm am Ende ein guter 8. Platz und eine neue persönliche Bestleistung in 10:25,96min! Ein gelungenes Debüt also, das Lust auf mehr Wettkämpfe macht!
