Etwa 120 Athleten waren vergangenen Sonntag auf die Hössensportanlage in Westerstede gekommen, um die Kreismeister im Mehrkampf zu ermitteln. Die Wettkämpfe der Schüler begannen um 11 Uhr bei trockenen Bedingungen und konnten bis etwa 13 Uhr (nur durch einzelne kurze Schauer unterbrochen) problemlos durchgeführt werden.
Dann aber öffnete der Himmel seine Schleusen und es kamen innerhalb kürzester Zeit so große Wassermassen herunter, dass an eine Fortsetzung der Meisterschaft nicht mehr zu denken war. Athleten, Kampfrichter und Betreuer hatten kaum die Möglichkeit die schützenden Unterstände auf der Hössen zu verlassen, ohne sofort durchnässt zu werden. Mit einem einsetzenden Gewitter wurde der Wettkampf schließlich ganz abgebrochen, das 
Wasser stand inzwischen mehrere Zentimeter hoch auf der Laufbahn und hatte die Weitsprunggruben und den Kugelstoßsektor in Wasserbecken verwandelt. Selbst nach einer längeren Unterbrechung hätten die Wettkämpfe so nicht mehr ordnungsgemäß aufgenommen werden können.
Auch wenn es uns als Ausrichter schmerzte, da viele Helfer involviert waren und im Vorfeld viel Organisationsarbeit geleistet wurde, war dies die einzig mögliche Entscheidung. Wir bedanken uns bei allen, die als Kampfrichter und Assistenten, sowie am Büffet so tatkräftig mitgeholfen haben! Dank euch war die KM bis 13 Uhr im Zeitplan 😉
Nachholtermine in Friedrichsfehn und Bad Zwischenahn
Der NLV-Kreis Ammerland-Friesland hat auch spontan einen Nachholtermin für die Mehrkampf-Kreismeisterschaften gefunden: Der SV Friedrichsfehn bietet an, im Rahmen des Mehrkampfsportfestes am 16. September die KM auszutragen.
Für die Kreismeisterschaften über 800 Meter gibt es ebenfalls einen Nachholtermin: Der TuS Ofen wird im Rahmen des Saisonabschlusses am 6. Oktober diese Strecke im Bad Zwischenahner Stadion anbieten.
